Child & Family Therapy in Madison, WI

We offer individual and family counseling for children and adolescents of all ages.

We use a strengths-based and systemic approach to help children and families address concerns, understand their interactions, and develop a collaborative plan of action for reaching their goals.

We want to help your child and family thrive and find increased connection and joy. We’ll listen carefully to your concerns, work with you to understand your child and family’s needs, and develop a plan that moves towards improved coping and increased resilience.

We are experienced in supporting children and families who have experienced trauma and attachment disruptions. Our therapists offer a variety of evidenced based, trauma specific interventions for children including Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TFCBT), Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) and EMDR.

Therapy sessions with children are highly interactive and engaging. Expressive art and play based techniques are used in addition to behavioral techniques, mindfulness strategies, social skills training, and experiential family sessions.

Parent/guardian involvement in children’s treatment is an expectation at Kind Therapy.

Caregivers are a critical part of the change process for addressing childhood concerns. This involvement may take different forms depending on the needs of your child and family. We will discuss this further during the initial session.

“The overall goal [of counseling] is to help family members become ‘systems experts’ who could know [their] family system so well that the family could readjust itself without the help of an expert.”

— Murray Bowen

Parenting and family sessions are available to learn strategies for responding to behavioral challenges, developmental tasks, and to strengthen all relationships within your family.

Healthy families are able to have structure and predictability with enough flexibility to allow for changing family dynamics and to support children’s independence and development as individuals.

Whether you are going through a transition as a family, adjusting to the adolescent or young adult years with your child, struggling to navigate busy schedules, or wanting to improve communication in your family, Kind Therapy can provide a safe place to learn how to grow and adapt as a family.
